In blending History and technology, the latest Hawker Hurricane chronograph is clear cut success. The 43mm rounded case cushions out creating a silhouette which echoes the evolution of the pilot watch from modified pocket watch to an essential piece of instrumentation for the wartime aviator.
Piston like pushers, and a serrated vintage style crown help to operate a precise Japanese chronograph movement. The Miyota 6S50 movement is shown off through a dial that while translucent affords clarity and precise readout of the 3 subdials. Split time chronograph measurement is possible down to a remarkable 1/20th of a second. Which represents a breakthrough in Avi-8’s own commitment to employing the best of modern watchmaking capabilities inside the chassis of their timepieces.
A large dual aperture date display commands the top of the dial with the iconic RAF roundel taking place at the 6 o’clock position. Despite excellent composition, balance and legibility the design of the dial and indeed the entire watch is steeped deep in 1940s timepiece and aviation aesthetics.
Bold sword luminous hands and baton like luminous index complete the dial face which sits under the gently convex shaped hardened mineral lens which flows with the lines of the outer wall of the case. Contrasting rectangular shaped lugs hold a buffalo hide leather strap in handstitched finish that hugs the watch to the wearer in both comfort and style.
