With the advent of the jet age, the 1960s reflected a growing level of confidence and progress in the RAF. Aircraft such as the Lightning, the V-Class strategic bombers and of course the iconic Hawker Hunter took to the sky broadening and sharpening Britain’s offensive and defensive airborne capabilities. The 1960s edition of the Centenary Flyboy measures a comfortably apt 43 in diameter, with a scratch resistant sapphire lens topping of the 316 L Stainless steel case which is built with an exhibition see through caseback.

RAF ROUNDEL
Bold yet detailed dial design with a double roundel layout. The seconds display is set off on a three dimensional roundel shaped subdial at the o’clock position.

SECONDS SUBDIAL
With the date display at the 3 o’clock position, the seconds subdial at the 5’oclock position has been fashioned carefully and matches a corresponding applied 3-dimensional roundel designed into the dial at the 10’oclock position.

The 1980s represented perhaps the arrival of an increasing level of computerization in the cockpit. Technology and an ever increasing array of diagnostics meant more digitization and electronics married to the skill of the pilot of that era. The 1980s Centenary edition flyboy is constructed out of marine grade 316 L Stainless steelcase which is built with an exhibition see through caseback. With a 43 diameter and 18mm thickness the case is perfectly balanced and proportioned as a field watch with an unfussy form. A scratch resistant sapphire lens domes gently over the bezel adding a subtle magnification to the dial for greater clarity and depth.
