Captain Robert B. Tresville Jr.
Captain Robert B. Tresville Jr. was a member of the renowned Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American pilots who served during World War II. Born in October 1923, Tresville was raised in the small town of Mobile, Alabama. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and began his training as a pilot.
Tresville's journey to becoming a Tuskegee Airman was not an easy one. Despite his skills as a pilot, he faced discrimination and racism, especially during his training. Despite these challenges, he persevered, and in 1944, he was assigned to the 332nd Fighter Group, which was based in Italy.
As a member of the 332nd, Tresville flew numerous combat missions, escorting bombers and engaging in dogfights with the enemy. His exemplary skills as a pilot earned him the respect of his fellow pilots and commanders, and he quickly rose through the ranks.
AVI-8 is proud to be releasing the next chapter in our partnership with the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. The unique limited edition features a unique tribute to both the men and the machines flown by the heroes of Tuskegee. With proceeds going to support the important work of the TAI.
We're proud to also have collaborated with award-winning Atlanta based African American artist Derrick Whitfield, on a series of custom portraits each dedicated to four of the Tuskegees' most famous pilots. More than a timepiece, this is a timeless commemoration and celebration of perhaps one of the most important chapters in American aviation history.
